Bitcoin Education, Self-Custody, Bitcoin Community

What It Is

WeAreBitcoin is an open-source education platform my brother and I built together. One question drove the whole thing: "Bitcoin sounds great, but where do I even begin?"

We kept hearing it from friends, family, people who were curious but overwhelmed by the noise. So we built the resource we wished had existed - practical guides on self-custody, cryptographic security, and long-term thinking. No hype, no buzzwords, no selling. Just clear explanations written so anyone can follow along.

How It Started

It started over coffee conversations in early 2024. We split the workload the way siblings do: I drafted the technical guides, he polished every sentence until our mom could understand it. Weekends blurred into nights of editing, hunting down trustworthy sources, and arguing - productively - about the difference between "simple" and "oversimplified."

What's There

  • Learn section - 60+ practical articles organized by topic: Bitcoin Basics, Cryptographic Security, Economic Series, Economic Truths
  • Expert perspectives on self-custody strategies and long-term preservation
  • Open-source content - community contributions welcome, everything cited and transparent

Early Hurdles

  • Clarity vs. Depth - It's easy to get technical; it's hard to stay clear. We rewrote guides three, four, sometimes six times until they struck the right balance.
  • Trust - People needed to know we weren't selling hype. We leaned on transparency: open-source content, community contributions, and citing everything.
  • Practical Focus - Theory only goes so far. Every guide is built around doing, not just reading.

The Incentive Model

Most Bitcoin content has an angle. Exchanges want you to trade. Influencers want engagement. Hardware wallet companies want you to buy their product. Even well-intentioned educators often monetize through referral links.

WeAreBitcoin has no ads, no affiliate links, no product placements. The content is open-source. The incentive is simple: make Bitcoin accessible so more people can evaluate it honestly. If you understand it and decide it's not for you, that's fine. At least you made an informed decision.

The Road Ahead

  • Mobile companion app
  • Merchant wallet - make it effortless for shops to accept Bitcoin without becoming tech experts
  • Global workshops - real-life meetups where beginners and builders learn side-by-side
  • Multi-language expansion powered by community translations

A Friendly Invitation

If any of this resonates - maybe you want to translate an article into your language, or you have feedback on a guide - jump in. Fork a guide, open a PR, or just reach out. Together, we can make Bitcoin practical and human-sized for everyone.
